Am I limited to a list of veterinarians or can my pet visit any vet I choose?

You can use any Veterinarian who is licenced to practice in South Africa.

What benefits does Rogz Pet Insurance offer?

Rogz Pet Insurance covers veterinary treatments and surgeries for accidental injury and illnesses (Option A does not include illness cover) ranging from minor problems such as ear infections and bee stings to major conditions such as broken bones, diabetes and cancer. For clients on Option C we also provide cover towards preventative care such as vaccinations, spaying, flea, tick and worm control and dental scaling/polishing (procedure only).

What is an Illness?

An Illness means an unexpected sickness or disease or any change to your pet's normal healthy state, which is not caused by injury to your pet. For example: upset stomach, skin conditions, ear infection.

What Is Rogz Pet Insurance?

Rogz Pet Insurance helps you pay your pet's veterinary bills so you never have to choose between your pet's health and your personal finances. With increasing veterinary costs and advancement in veterinary care, Pet Insurance is an option more owners are considering.

Will the cost of my insurance change each year?

Our challenge is to find a healthy balance between providing the best possible benefit, while keeping the premiums as affordable as possible to ensure a sustainable product. With rising costs in veterinary care as well as more advanced treatment available to more pet owners, Rogz Pet Insurance reviews Benefits and Premiums on an annual* basis and if amended, these are implemented on 1st March.

Do you cover treatment for Parvo virus (Katgriep/cat flu), Giardia or Kennel Cough?

We believe in preventative health care and that is why we provide Routine Care on Option C to help pay for vaccinations, deworming, tick and flea control, sterilisation and dental scaling/polishing (procedure only). We do not pay for illnesses or conditions that are preventable through routine vaccination, deworming and flea control. Parvo virus and kennel cough are not covered as they can be prevented through routine vaccination. Giardia is covered as it is not a preventable condition.

If an unforeseen health event arises, how does the cover work?

Once your vet has treated your pet, simply send in a Rogz Pet Insurance claim form along with your vet's detailed account and receipt. Rogz Pet Insurance then calculates the benefit and value and sends payment directly to you. Claims are processed within 14 working days of receipt, payments are made twice a month.

What is hip dysplasia and can my pet get coverage?

Hip dysplasia is the failure of the hip joints to develop normally. This occurs more commonly in large breed dogs. As it is largely a genetic disorder, this condition is not covered.

What is the amount covered for a visit to the Vet?

Benefits are paid according to 100% of the tariff rate* less R250** excess per claim. Annual sublimits apply and are available on the Rogz Pet Insurance Website or on request (, 0860 00 ROGZ / 0860 00 7649). There is no excess deductible for Routine Care claims.

*The Rogz Pet Insurance Tariff Rate is based on Petsure’s internal tariff of fees which is reviewed annually.

**A R330 excess will apply for pets under the age of 13 months at time of treatment.

When will I receive my Certificate of Insurance?

Your Certificate of Insurance will be e-mailed to you. This may take approximately 10 days from the date of application.

Can my claim be paid directly to the veterinarian?

No, the insurance contract is between you and Rogz Pet Insurance. You are required to pay the vet in full first and then claim from us.

How long does it take to get reimbursed?

Claims are processed within 14 working days of receipt and our payment runs are done twice a month.

Is there a cut-off period after which I cannot make a claim?

Yes, if you submit claims more than 2 months after the treatment date, Rogz Pet Insurance will not be liable to pay those claims.

Is there a limit to the number of claims I can make?

No, there is no limit to the number of claims that you can make.

What is the overall annual limit?

R30 000** for Options B and C and R9 000** for Option A. Annual* sublimits apply.

Can I cancel my policy?

Yes, you have a 14 day money back guarantee period from the start date of your policy to review and cancel with no obligation. If you would like to cancel your policy after this period we require one calendar month's written notice to cancel.

How do I renew my policy?

Rogz works on a monthly policy, as long as you pay your premiums, you will remain a member of Rogz Pet Insurance. You do not need to renew your policy.

What are my payment options?

  1. Monthly debit order on 26th (for the next month) 1st or 4th of the month.
  2. Credit card - automatic debit on 26th (for the next month) 1st or 4th of the month.
  3. Annual* payments by EFT or credit card only.

When will my credit card / debit card be charged?

You may choose either the 26th (for the next month), 1st or 4th of the month for payments to be charged.

Can I change my pet's coverage during the year?

Yes, on your Pet's Anniversary date. Only one change is permitted in the life time of your Pet at the discretion of the Underwriter.

Can I transfer my policy to a new owner?

No, but you can change the pet over to a new owner.

The original owner will have to notify Rogz Pet Insurance of the change of ownership.

The original owner will then be required to cancel their Pet's cover on their policy and the new owner will send through an application form re-joining the pet under their name with new banking details.

The new owner will receive a New Policy (or Updated Policy if they are already a member of Rogz) covering the Pet.

The one calendar month waiting period will not apply unless there is a lapse in the monthly premium payment between Change of Ownership.

NOTE: There might be a change in premium due to a combination of different risk factors.

How do I add another pet to my existing policy?

The Rogz Pet Insurance Add-a-Pet application can only be completed online. Please log onto our website https://insurance.rogz.com and click on the “Get a Quote” tab to get a quotation for your additional pet(s) only.

Quotations are only valid for 24 hours. When you retrieve your quote at a later date, it will reflect the newest prices.

Once you have done a quote for your additional pet(s), you will need to follow through with the online application and complete all your pet's details, your personal details, bank details, read and agree to the Rogz Pet Insurance Terms and Conditions and then submit your application. Your 'additional' pet(s) will then be combined into your existing policy so long as the ID number is the same that you submitted to us on your original application. The multi-pet discount will be applied once your policy has been activated.

If I cancel my policy for any reason, will I get a refund?

Yes, you have a 14 day money back guarantee period from the start date of your policy to review and cancel with no obligation. If you would like to cancel your policy after this period we require one calendar month's written notice to cancel (there will not be a refund). If your pet has unexpectedly passed away, we will refund any premiums that have been debited for cover for the following months on an annual policy (one month cancellation period will not apply).

If I cancel my policy will I be able to reinstate my pet's coverage later?

Yes, but any new conditions that develop when your pet is not covered will be classified as pre-existing and may be excluded. A one month waiting period will apply after application to re-instate.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The proposal to reinstate your policy is subject to underwriting guidelines. Acceptance of this insurance for any pet is at the discretion of the underwriters. We reserve the right to decline acceptance of a pet and to vary the conditions on which the insurance is accepted.

Can the microchip track my pet's location?

No, the microchip does not send out signals that can be traced by a tracking device or picked up via satellite. Your pet's location cannot be tracked with the microchip.

Is it painful to insert a microchip?

No more than any inoculation.

What happens if my pet does not have a microchip?

If your pet does not have a microchip, Rogz Pet Insurance requires that you have one inserted when you next visit your vet. You will need to pay your vet up front in full. Microchipping is done at the owner’s expense. Go to www.identipet.co.za for more information on the value of microchipping your pet for easy identification. Please note that you will not be able to make a claim without proof that your pet has a microchip.

What if my pet is found by someone who does not have a scanner to read a microchip?

Most veterinarians in South Africa are equipped to scan all animals whether they are pets or lost, abandoned or stolen. All branches of the SPCA, as well as Animal Welfare Organizations are supplied with scanners to assist them in the identification of pets. If someone finds your pet it must be taken to the nearest veterinarian or welfare organization to be scanned.
