Does Rogz Pet Insurance offer benefits towards preventative treatment?

Yes, Routine and Dental Care is included in the Rogz Pet Insurance Option C package. We recommend and encourage responsible pet ownership. This includes spaying your pet, annual vaccination, tick and flea control, deworming and dental scaling/polishing.

How is the premium calculated?

We know that pets are individuals and so we are introducing a new way of calculating your premium. The premium is calculated according to the risks associated with the insured Pet and is printed on the relevant Certificate of Insurance. In calculating the premium, we may consider the cover that you have chosen, where you and your pet permanently live as well as the species, breed, age and sex of your pet.

What is an Accidental Injury?

A physical or bodily injury that happens accidentally to your pet as a result of external, violent and visible means. For example: broken bones, snake bite, dog/cat fight.

When is the best time to buy my pet insurance?

Puppies and kittens are more likely to develop an illness or injury than an adult pet. Their coordination is still developing along with their immune system. So, we suggest insuring as soon as possible to avoid unexpected surprises that may result in a pre-existing exclusion on your policy, preventing your pet from getting full cover.

But just because your pet isn't a puppy or kitten doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't get pet insurance. As pets age they get sicker and have more and higher vet bills than when they were young. As soon as your pet is 8 weeks of age they can be covered by Rogz Pet Insurance.

Will the cost of my insurance change each year?

Our challenge is to find a healthy balance between providing the best possible benefit, while keeping the premiums as affordable as possible to ensure a sustainable product. With rising costs in veterinary care as well as more advanced treatment available to more pet owners, Rogz Pet Insurance reviews Benefits and Premiums on an annual* basis and if amended, these are implemented on 1st July.

Are pregnancies and new births covered?

No, Rogz Pet Insurance does not cover any conditions relating to pregnancy or breeding.

Do you cover ligament and knee conditions such as cruciate ligament injuries?

Yes, we do cover orthopaedic and ligament surgeries. We cover one cruciate surgery per pet per policy year*.

Does my pet have to have a microchip to claim?

Microchipping is not a requirement on your policy, however, it is an integral part of identifying your fur-kid at a veterinary institution should they get lost, and we absolutely advocate microchipping.

Does my pet need to be vaccinated to qualify for cover?

Your pet will not be covered for illnesses that are preventable through vaccination therefore we recommend that your pet must have been vaccinated within the last year.

Is my pet covered while we are travelling?

Your pet is covered as long as you are travelling within South Africa.

How do I submit a pet insurance claim?

An insurance claim can be e-mailed, posted or faxed to or PO Box 87419, Houghton, 2041 or 0866 61 0989.

How long does it take to get reimbursed?

Claims are processed within 14 working days of receipt; payment runs are done twice a week.

How much of the vets bill will be covered?

Benefits are paid according to The Standard Rate* less R230 or 16.5% of the applicable benefit of each and every claim, whichever is the greater**. Annual sublimits apply and are available on the Rogz Pet Insurance Website or on request (, 0860 00 ROGZ / 0860 00 7649). There is no excess deductible for Routine and Dental Care claims.

*The Standard Rate is calculated by the actuaries and is the average amount charged by vets all across the country, based on our claims data. The Standard Rate treatment list can be downloaded from our Website from 1 July 2019.

**Continuation treatment of the same condition within 30 days will carry an excess of 16.5% thereafter benefits are reimbursed at 100% of the Standard Rate for all Options. A minimum of R330 excess will apply for pets under the age of 13 months at the time of treatment.

What do I need to do when I make my first claim?

What is the overall annual limit?

Can I cancel my policy?

Yes, you have a 14 day money back guarantee period from the start date of your policy to review and cancel with no obligation. If you would like to cancel your policy after this period we require one calendar month's written notice to cancel.

How do I renew my policy?

Rogz works on a monthly policy, as long as you pay your premiums, you will remain a member of Rogz Pet Insurance. You do not need to renew your policy.

When will my credit card / debit card be charged?

You may choose either the 26th (for the next month), 1st or 4th of the month for payments to be charged.

Can I change my pet's coverage during the year?

Yes, on your Pet's Anniversary date. Only one change is permitted in the life time of your Pet at the discretion of the Underwriter.

Can I transfer my policy to a new owner?

No, but you can change the pet over to a new owner.

The original owner will have to notify Rogz Pet Insurance of the change of ownership.

The original owner will then be required to cancel their Pet's cover on their policy and the new owner will send through an application form re-joining the pet under their name with new banking details.

The new owner will receive a New Policy (or Updated Policy if they are already a member of Rogz) covering the Pet.

The one calendar month waiting period will not apply unless there is a lapse in the monthly premium payment between Change of Ownership.

NOTE: There might be a change in premium due to a combination of different risk factors.

How do I add another pet to my existing policy?

The Rogz Pet Insurance Add-a-Pet application can only be completed online. Please log onto our website https://insurance.rogz.com and click on the “Get a Quote” tab to get a quotation for your additional pet(s) only.

Quotations are only valid for 24 hours. When you retrieve your quote at a later date, it will reflect the newest prices.

Once you have done a quote for your additional pet(s), you will need to follow through with the online application and complete all your pet's details, your personal details, bank details, read and agree to the Rogz Pet Insurance Terms and Conditions and then submit your application. Your 'additional' pet(s) will then be combined into your existing policy so long as the ID number is the same that you submitted to us on your original application. The multi-pet discount will be applied once your policy has been activated.

If I cancel my policy for any reason, will I get a refund?

Yes, you have a 14 day money back guarantee period from the start date of your policy to review and cancel with no obligation. If you would like to cancel your policy after this period we require one calendar month's written notice to cancel (there will not be a refund). If your pet has unexpectedly passed away, we will refund any premiums that have been debited for cover for the following months on an annual policy (one month cancellation period will not apply).

If I cancel my policy will I be able to reinstate my pet's coverage later?

Yes, but any new conditions that develop when your pet is not covered will be classified as pre-existing and may be excluded. A one month waiting period will apply after application to re-instate.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: The proposal to reinstate your policy is subject to underwriting guidelines. Acceptance of this insurance for any pet is at the discretion of the underwriters. We reserve the right to decline acceptance of a pet and to vary the conditions on which the insurance is accepted.

Can the microchip harm my pet?

No. The microchip must be inserted by a veterinarian. It does not move around in the body and it does not harm the pet.

Can the microchip track my pet's location?

No, the microchip does not send out signals that can be traced by a tracking device or picked up via satellite. Your pet's location cannot be tracked with the microchip.

How do I get my pet microchipped?

Your pet needs to be microchipped at the veterinarian or welfare organization. The microchips are individually packaged in a sterile syringe, and a veterinarian simply injects it under the skin between the shoulder blades. When the microchip is injected, owners need to complete a registration form with all contact details and the pet's details. One copy of the form goes to the owner, one copy to the vet and one copy goes to the microchip company. Microchipping is done at the owner’s expense.

Is it painful to insert a microchip?

No more than any inoculation.

What happens if my pet gets lost?

If your pet gets lost someone will take them to a veterinarian or pet welfare organization to be scanned. The scanner picks up the microchip number and shows it on a screen. This microchip number is then phoned through or sent by SMS message to the microchip company. Within a minute or two a message is received back with the pet owner's name and phone numbers.
